Cochineal Dyed Scarves

Stella Fluorescent collaboration with Julia Busenitz and Renee Silvestri.

Each designer took inspiration from the imagery provided for the Flora, Flush collection and created a printed motif. After settling upon a design from each collaborator, proofs were hand drawn and delivered to a local screen printer to be printed on silk. Meanwhile, Tiersa and Julia worked together to test and create a cochineal dye bath to over-dye the scarves after the printing process. Cochineal is a natural dye derived from an insect of the same name. When extracted the dye produces a variety of red tints, such as crimson, scarlet and fuchsia.
